Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes PartyPoker’s annual online tournament series, Pokerfest 2015. The series kicks off on Sunday, March 29 and runs through Sunday, April 12, dishing up a minimum of $2.4 million guaranteed along the way. But as has been the case since American players were restricted from the international site years ago, Pokerfest 2015 will only be open to players outside the US, and not those located in the US regulated state of New Jersey.
This is the fifth edition of Pokerfest at PartyPoker, and has the highest number of events ever scheduled for the 15-day series. A total of 77 events will take place across the two week online poker festival, guaranteeing $2.4 million; (twice that of last year’s running, but notably less than all prior renditions). Buy-ins have been set to please all bankroll sizes, with low ($5-$10), medium ($20-$50) and high ($100+) entry levels.
The first day of action will be packed with 9 events and $600k in guarantees. The budget-minded might want to check out Events #4 and #7, a $5 NLHE Hyper Rebuy, $10k GTD, and a $10 NLHE Hyper Rebuy, $15k GTD. The highest prize pools come by the way of Events #6 and #9, a $200 NLHE Freezeout, $250k GTD, and a $500 NLHE High Roller, $150k GTD.
For the next two weeks, members of PartyPoker can take part in a wide range of events that include everything from NLHE, PLO and PLO8 to FLHE and 7 Card Stud. The Pokerfest 2015 Main Event will take place on the last day, Sunday, April 12. It features a $200 buy-in with $300k GTD, set to kick off at 2:00pm.
Satellites are already running at PartyPoker, and a throng of Mega Satellites to all of the bigger events on the Pokerfest 2015 schedule will take place each weekend throughout the online poker tournament series.
Evolution of Pokerfest
The very first Pokerfest online tournament series was held in the Spring of 2011. PartyPoker hosted 47 events that year, guaranteeing $3 million in prize pools. In 2012, Pokerfest II offered the same number of events, but increased the overall guarantee to $3.5 million. Pokerfest 2013 was the largest in the history of the series, increasing the events to 67 and the overall prize pool to a whopping $4 million.
It wasn’t until 2014 that Pokerfest saw an immense reduction in prize value. PartyPoker added nine more events to the schedule, but was forced to trim the guarantees to just over $1 million across 76 events. To help make up for it, the online poker operator held its first Pokerfest Championship later that Fall, a virtual mirror of the Spring edition, but with $2 million guaranteed across the same 76 events.
The Championship edition, combined with this year’s Pokerfest 2015, signals a resurgence in player participation for PartyPoker as the guarantee has doubled back up to $2.4 million across 77 events.
What’s going on at PartyPoker NJ?
Although Pokerfest 2015 does not transcend continental borders, members of PartyPoker NJ will still have some interesting opportunities to take advantage of. There’s a new Daily Majors schedule that delivers 20 events with guaranteed prize pools ranging from $150 to $10,000. Additionally, players can win a $200 ticket into the weekly Sunday $50k GTD through daily qualifiers starting at $5.
