Jens “Jeans89” Kyllonen – The Next Tom Dwan ?

Jens Kyllonen is an exceptional poker player, especially in regards to cash games. At just 22 years of age, he is one of the most fearsome players at the PokerStars high stakes tables. His success rate is phenomenal, experiencing so few downswings one would question whether he has a 6th sense for poker. Ask any of his opponents and they will tell you, Jens “Jeans89” is a truly menacing force to be reckoned with.

Born in 1989 in Helsinki, Finland, Kyllonen first started playing poker in 2006. His risk management was most efficient, beginning with a free roll tournament that netted him $10 cash, and quickly working that up to a $300 bankroll at Limit Hold’em tables. With a keen sense for the game, he made the switch to low stakes No Limit and his success soared from there. Within a year, Jens Kyllonen was raking in the chips at NL stakes of $5/$10 and $10/$20.

While cash games were, and still are, his main source of action, “Jeans89” was frequenting the tournament rosters as well. He played mostly in Sit’n’Go tournaments from 2007 to 2008, but scored a huge win at the 2008 ECOOP Main Event with a 1st place victory worth $315,000. It was then that Jens turned a portion of his attention to live tournaments.

Jens earned his first live tournament cash in January of 2009, scooping up $7,247 at the Helsinki Freezeout for a 16th place finish. He followed that up with a 1st place win at the EPT Scandinavian Open, earning an EPT Title and his largest profit to date, $1,246,003.
Kyllonen has cashed in three more live tournaments since then, earning more than $111k on the Season 6 EPT Barcelona Main Event (12th – $57k), the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event (129th – $20k) and the 2011 WSOP Main Event (113th – $54k), bringing his total live tournament earnings to $1,385,482.

As impressive as his live earnings resonate, cash games remain the forte of the young Finnish poker pro. Since February of 2011 alone, “Jeans89” has accumulated an astonishing $3.12 million at PokerStars cash games. His largest single-hand pots have all occurred within the last three months; two of them on the exact same day.

The largest hand of all took Jens stack up just over a quarter of a million on February 23, 2012. It was a $100/$200 PLO hand that pitted Jeans89 against DAvin “mTw-DaviN” Georgi and “Tsubi87”. After the flop, Tsubi87, with a pair of 10’s and an Ace-High Straight draw, pushed his remaining $10k into the pot, which prompted an all-in of mTw-DaviN’s $117k holding a Pair of Aces and a low-end Straight draw. Jeans89, with 3 Aces already, was quick to make the call. The river offered no help to any hand, landing the $252,050 pot in Kyllonen’s lap.

Jens’s second largest hand occurred at the $200/$400 PLO tables on December 12, 2011. He landed a pair of 10’s on the flop and stuck to his guns, finishing the hand with Kings and 10’s that would beat out “long90110” (Pocket Aces) and “1Il|1Il|1il|” (Pair 10’s) for a $200,544 pot. Jeans89 pulled his third largest cash on the same day (12-12-11), besting “Ilari FIN” (better known as the infamous poker pro, Ilari Sahamies, or his other alias “Ziigmund”) in a high stakes PLO hand worth $177,657 when Illari’s pocket aces fell to Jeans89’s trio of Jacks.

A rising poker star of exponential proportions, Jens Kyllonen continues to mystify his opponents in tournaments and cash games, and is a definite favorite to watch in any poker venue.
